Loco Rita is located on Old Hawkhill and is a 100% vegan restaurant that serves the most amazing Mexican inspired food that you would never guess is plant based. The name Loco Rita roughly translates to crazy Daisy which is the nickname of the owner’s daughter. She made some of the artwork that is covering the walls and the crown logo is inspired by her and her love for crowns.
Their Mexican inspired food, beer and cocktails get a solid 10/10 from us! 99% of the menu is made from scratch using their own recipes by their staff and team of dedicated chefs. Their desserts are incredible too from their soft serve ice cream and churros you are sure to leave with a very full happy belly! Kelly-Anne Fairweather, the owner of the Selkie, opened the doors to the popular hot spot in 2020. She is known in Dundee not just for her established business but for giving back to the community. Since opening her business Kelly has given away more than 3000 meals to families who needed help and provided education on how to cook fresh food by donating slow cookers and spices also.
The Selkie is a very photogenic venue covered in faux flower foliage and the ceiling is wrapped with cotton, imitating clouds with led lights to replicate lightning which is extremely relaxing to watch. Often the selkie will host boozy brunches with a live DJ which allows you to enjoy your food then let loose with your friends for a dance and cocktails.
The Selkie truly does have something for everyone when it comes to their food menu. Most popular for their tapas dishes they have an entire plant based tapas section which includes dishes from vegan meatballs, patatas bravas and much more. With the Selkie almost always being fully booked we would highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot to fully enjoy your time in one of our favorite venues in Dundee city center.
